If you are enrolled in the 2019 Marketplace plan, your benefit year will end on Dec. 31, 2019. In order to continue your coverage in 2020, you may renew your current health plan or choose a new health plan on the Marketplace during the 2020 Open Enrollment Period.
During 2020 open enrollment, if you decide to enroll between the 1st and the 15th of the month, your healthcare coverage will begin the first day of the following month. If you enroll between the 16th and the last day of the month, your coverage will begin the first day of the second month. For example, if you enroll on May 16, your coverage will begin on July 1.
You are only permitted to buy marketplace insurance outside of open enrollment if you qualify for the Special Enrollment Period. The Special Enrollment Period is utilized for qualifying life events such as loss of other health coverage, birth or adoption of a child, or marriage.
You may enroll in the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) or Medicaid at any time. There is no limited enrollment period for these two programs. If you qualify, you can enroll immediately.
Also, If you operate or own a small business, you may start offering coverage to your employees at any time.
Marketplace Healthcare.gov site Open Enrollment 2020 – OEP 2020, starts Nov. 1, 2019 and ends Dec. 15, 2019. The new Open Enrollment period has been reduced to 45 days. You can enroll in Obamacare Healthcare Insurance at healthcare.gov during the 2020 OEP, or shop around using the form at the top of the page.
