Democrats Chanting at GOP After Passing of AHCA

Democrats chanting at GOP, “Hey Hey Hey goodbye” after passing of the health care bill.

Thursday many of the Congressional Democrats began chanting a well know song, Na, Na, Hey, Hey Kiss Him Goodbye; when it became clear the bill for American Health Care Act would be passing the House of Representatives.

The bill received no Democratic votes and this taunt sang out by those in the chamber after the Republicans secured the 216th vote which secured the passage of legislation. The taunt by the Democrats was a reference to a belief that as a result of this vote; Republicans will suffer politically.

Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif after the vote said the GOP pay the price during the 2018 elections for passing the bill. Chick Schumer, D-N.Y, the Senate Minority leader had said, in the United State Senate; this bill is going nowhere fast.

As the final vote came in which announced the bill’s passage, a 217-213 vote. For a second time the House Democrats belted out this famous refrain of “Nah Nah Nah Nah, hey, hey, hey, Good-bye.” This chant for years has been a staple for athletic events used to taunt the opposing team.

A similar moment in 1993 when votes were secured to pass the President Clinton’s annual budget and Democratic Rep. Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky voted in support of this measure even though her home constituency was skeptical of this measure. Republicans heckled her with a “goodbye Marjorie” and she did lose her re-election bid for 1994.

As many Republican lawmakers touted of the AHCA passing the House. Stating “today we made good on our promises to repeal and replace the ACA Obamacare and that Obamacare is not going to fix itself. And that the vote gives new voice for victims of healthcare under Obamacare who are receiving less coverage, paying higher insurance premiums.
