Health Insurance Virginia

Virginia has chosen to use the Federally run exchange. Residents of VA will enroll in exchange plans through Healthcare.gov. However, the state of Virginia has a marketplace plan management exchange. This means the states responsible for overseeing any plans that are sole on the exchange. The Virginia exchange is more robust than it is in most states having 10 carriers for coverage being offered in 2017.

There were over 378,000 people who have effectuated coverage in private plans as of March 2016 through the Virginia Exchange. This is the 7^th highest enrollment in the country representing 13% increase over effectuated enrollment totals of March 2015.

In 2017, Humana is exiting the individual market for Virginia. Currently they are only off-exchange however Cigna is planning on joining the individual market for Virginia. This is both on and off-exchange.
